(DAT) who can provide full Standard and Accessible MiDAS
certificate training for drivers.
MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme, organised by the Community Transport Association U.K. (CTA) which promotes a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers. It is a membership based scheme that has been designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses.
MiDAS is applicable to any organisation operating or using minibuses. Member organisations range from small voluntary organisations operating one vehicle, to local authorities operating large fleets of minibuses as well as schools, colleges and universities.
Drivers who successfully complete the MiDAS assessment and training programme will receive a nationally recognised certificate valid for four years, as well as the option of obtaining the comprehensive "MiDAS Driver's Handbook".
Training Covers the following topics:
Legal responsibility of a minibus driver
Passenger safety
Child passengers safety
Defensive driving skills
Accident and emergency procedures
Manual handling awareness
Health and Safety awareness
Personal safety for drivers
Training will consist of one day in the classroom. This can be during the day and will last approximately 6 hours, evening (2 x 3 hours) or at weekends where you will be:
Provided with the information
Given the opportunity to participate in role play
Use the restraints for wheelchairs and passengers (if applicable)
On the road assessment will normally last for just over one hour and will include:
A demonstration drive by the Driver Assessor/Trainer (DAT) so that you can see the standard which is required.
The opportunity for you to drive the vehicle under supervision in order to receive on the road vehicle familiarisation
An assessment of your driving skills
Assessments will be arranged to suit the individual
After the assessment, if not successful you may receive further training to bring your skills up to the MiDAS standard and be re-assessed at a later date.
If success you will receive a MiDAS certificate, which enables you to drive the minibus of other members without the need to be re-assessed.
After 4 years you will be asked to attend a short refresher training session and assessment. New certificates will be valid for 2 years after which further refresher training will be required.
Training can be arranged to suit individuals and groups.
Individuals must bring their driving license with them for training and assessment.
